New Blog, Who This?

With my first story going out today in my employer’s blog I thought a brief introduction might be in order.

I’m Dan Stack, a software developer in the Boston area. My pronouns are he, him, and his. I’ve reached the point in my career that when I mention the year I graduated college some of my co-workers chime in that, while they were technically alive at that point, they have no recollection of that time… I’ve made the conscious decision to stay in the world of day to day developing. I’ve had times in my career when I moved away from day-to-day development I’ve found that it’s what I’m most passionate about. That time was still critical for me, as it gave me a broader idea as to the impact the products we develop have. For example, some of the software I’ve worked on has played critical roles in hospitals, making uptime vital. Losing nines of availability is more than just a metric in these cases, it means a hospital may have difficulty admitting new patients.

Grogu and me hanging out

If you look around for me online you’ll find other signs of my activity — I’m an active blogger in the RPG community — I’ve been playing RPGs since the day my next-door neighbor received the D&D Basic Rules as a Christmas gift in the early 1980s. I’ll probably leave most of my gaming-related articles for that blog but who knows?

Family-wise, I’m married to a wonderful woman who is a high school teacher and I’ve two daughters, one who has just finished her freshman year of college in New York City and the other wrapping up her sophomore year of high school. We share our home with three corgis who are frequent visitors on Zoom calls.
